Four Hands

The legendary husband-and-wife duo – Irena and Vojtech Havlovi – started to work together in the mid-80s and since the very beginning have had a very unorthodox approach to both historical and modern compositional techniques and interpretative procedures. Gradually they created their typically unclassifiable, multi-layered sound and style that is however easily discernable and appreciated by audiences even far beyond the borders of the Czech Republic.Their music is poetic, meditative and inspired by non-European cultures as well as minimalism. They recorded and released several very original CDs which earned them acclaim both at home and abroad. They have been appearing in concert across the Czech Republic, Europe, Canada, the USA as well as Africa and Japan, thanks to the collaboration with avant-garde artists Petr Nikl and Jana Svobodová. Irena dna Vojtech Havlovi are also writing music for short and feature films, documentaries and theatre (film Little Crusader by Vaclav Kadrnka was awarded by the Czech Film and TV Academy for the best film score). In their music, they are using various musical instruments – cello, piano, viola da gamba, bells, tibetian bowls and others. On their new album Four Hands they bring new compositions for 4 hand piano and organ.
